FAQ
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of deep relaxation. In this altered state of consciousness a person is much more able to use therapeutic suggestions, explore problems and address issues to achieve effective change.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Although reports vary from person to person, most people experience a pleasant, comfortable feeling of mild drowsiness or heaviness as well as a sense of ease and calm. This altered state is similar to the experience of daydreaming or zoning out. Contrary to media portrayal, during hypnosis you will be aware of the therapist, their instructions and you will remain in control at all times. You will remember everything that happens when you are in hypnosis. You will not do or say anything in the trance state that you normally would not choose to say or do.
How safe is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring process that does not use drugs. The hypnotic state is maintained by consent between you and the therapist. You can come out of trance or stop the process any time you choose. At all times you remain in control, aware of your surroundings and your body. There are no side effects to hypnosis. Some people are reluctant to leave this relaxed state as they enjoy the experience so much.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Almost everyone can be hypnotised. For some it comes naturally and others improve with practice, but generally everyone can achieve a state sufficient to achieve therapeutic benefit surprisingly easily. As long as you have a desire to engage in the process and trust in the hypnotherapist you will easily be able to achieve this state. Remember you cannot be hypnotised against your will, nor would any reputable therapist want to do so.
